Situated in the remote Himalayan state of Sikkim, it is India’s 100th airport. Built into a hill above Pakyong village at 4,500ft (1,371 metres) above sea level and spread across over 201 acres, it is also one of the five highest airports in India. After nine years of construction it has a terminal that can hold 100 passengers, a runway that is 1.75km long and is located 60km from the border with China.
