The X FIP World Polo Championship will take place from 21-29 October 2017. The eight-day event will be held at the Sydney Polo Club in the town of Richmond, New South Wales, Sydney. This verdant 450-acre plot of land is home to five world-class polo fields, where 14 matches will be played over a six-day period.

History of World Polo Championship

The first ever World Polo Championship took place in 1987, hosted by Argentina, who went on to win the tournament. Federation of International Polo (FIP) founders Marcos Uranga and Glen Holden, created the Championship in a bid to promote public awareness of the sport and boost global publicity. This year will mark the 11th World Polo Championship to date and will see Sydney host the Championship for the first time ever, with the last Australian-hosted event taking place in Melbourne in 2001.

The World Polo Championship is held every three years; each year countries bid to host the prestigious tournament. This exclusive event showcases the best polo teams and players at an international level. This year’s tournament takes place 21-29 October 2017. Eight international teams will compete over the course of the tournament to win the World Champion trophy, with the finals taking place on Sunday 29 October 2017. Final daily schedules will be released later this month.

Tickets to the 11th World Polo Championship are now on sale, with a variety of packages to choose from.
