Helping to repatriate German citizens stranded on Pacific islands
In April 2020, Air Charter Service was asked by the German Embassy in Australia to transport European citizens stranded in the Cook Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu to Sydney, where they would then board scheduled services home.
With the Pacific nations’ borders closed due to Covid-19, we sprung into action to secure the necessary permits and ensure the passengers arrived in Sydney with enough time to board their connecting flights.
Our Solution
Routes: Tonga > Vanuatu > Brisbane > Sydney and Cook Islands > Sydney
Aircraft: Boeing B737-300 and Boeing B787-900
We suggested transporting the citizens to Sydney on two separate charters; 50 passengers on a Boeing B737-300 flying from Tonga via Vanuatu and the remaining 20 on a Boeing B787-900 flying direct from the Cook Islands. Our experienced team liaised closely with the German embassy and multiple government bodies in order to secure the paperwork needed for the flights to go ahead. We also worked alongside the scheduled service operators for the passengers’ connecting flights to ensure luggage was checked through to their final destinations.
