CITY GUIDE COLLINGWOOD

Private jet charter and flights to Collingwood

Sitting on the shore of Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Lake Huron’s South Georgia Bay is the pretty town of Collingwood, Ontario. Here tree-lined streets are home to pretty brick buildings and views of the lake seem ever-present. Discover its industrial past; ski, hike or bike in the nearby Blue Mountains; or spend your days out on the water. Request a private jet charter quote from Air Charter Service.

In Downtown Collingwood, which has been designated a Heritage District, you can discover the town’s history through its well-preserved Victorian buildings. Although they now house a number of independent restaurants, shops, bars and cafés, these pretty façades are much the same as they would have been around 150 years ago when the town was a shipbuilding centre. Even in town, an outdoors lifestyle is embraced, with over 30 miles of trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, cross-country skiers and snow-shoers. A few on-trail highlights include Sunset Point Park & Beach and Millennium Park, which is surrounded on three sides by water and has great views of the harbour and bay.

Collingwood is probably best known for its proximity to southern Ontario’s Blue Mountain resort, a skiing and snowboarding favourite. In just under two hours, mountain sports enthusiasts from Toronto and its surrounding towns and cities can reach the slopes and trails. Another nearby attraction is the aptly-named Scenic Caves, where you can take self-guided walks through glacially-carved caves and caverns. The park also features a 430-foot long suspension bridge from which you can enjoy views out over the bay as well as a network of zip lines, treetop canopy walkways, cross-country skiing trails and much more.

If you don’t have a head for heights or enclosed spaces, the breathtaking Wasaga Beach Provincial Park – home to the world’s longest freshwater beach – is a great alternative. Just under half an hour from the heart of Collingwood, on warm summer days this is an idyllic spot to swim, SUP, kayak or set out on the seemingly endless trails that cross the park. As is common in this part of the world, you can enjoy the trails in both summer and winter – it’s just a case of whether you’ll be wearing skis or hiking boots!

One final attraction that’s definitely worth a mention is the region’s mouthwatering Apple Pie Trail, a must for anyone with a sweet tooth. The rural surroundings of Collingwood are the perfect place to grow apples and the fruit has been produced here for decades. This award-winning trail takes you through lakeside towns and villages, to orchards, farmers’ markets, restaurants and cider houses.

The accommodation options in and around Collingwood encompass bed-and-breakfasts that double up as cooking schools, mountain resorts and chalets, country inns and waterfront resorts. You can stay in town or, if you want to be close to the slopes and trails, up in the Blue Mountain village itself.

Collingwood is easily accessed from Collingwood Regional Airport. Alternatives include Toronto’s Pearson International Airport and a number of other city and regional airports. Just contact our team and we’ll arrange everything you need to charter a private jet Collingwood, Ontario.
