CITY GUIDE HONOLULU

Private jet charter and flights to Honolulu

Located on Oahu – the archipelago’s third largest but most populous island – Honolulu is Hawaii’s state capital, best known for its dazzling beaches, World War II history and as the birthplace of Barack Obama. Get a fast quote from Air Charter Service to charter a private jet to Honolulu.

On the south shore, the suburb of Waikiki is Honolulu’s glitzy superstar; a 1960s’ Vegas-by-the-beach-style strip of big-name high-rise hotels, high-end boutiques, excellent restaurants serving fresh fish tacos and poke, and buzzing beach bars with live music. Surfing is big news here and the calm waters are ideal for beginners.

Of course, there’s more to Honolulu than Waikiki. The city’s natural wonders include Diamond Head – an extinct volcano that makes for a popular morning hike with stunning views over Waikiki from the crater rim. There’s a rich history here, too. Pearl Harbor is Honolulu’s most famous historic site. Free tours (it’s recommended to book in advance) take visitors to the floating memorial that marks the spot of the wreck of the USS Arizona, where 1,177 sailors and marines lost their lives during the surprise attack in 1941. This is where World war II began for the USA. The Pearl Harbor Visitor Centre is also a must-visit.

The city is also home to the USA’s only royal palace. Located in downtown Honolulu, The Iolani Palace is a national historic landmark and was the official state residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom’s last two monarchs from 1882-1893. Downtown is also where you’ll find the Aloha Tower. Built in 1926, it was a welcoming beacon for visitors to Oahu and a docking port for cruise ships. Today, it’s still a port but also a popular marketplace with restaurants and shops. For more serious retail therapy, shopaholics should head to Ala Moana, the world's largest open-air shopping centre. A few blocks from the Aloha Tower, Chinatown’s laneways have an illustrious history of whalers and immigrant traders; today they’re home to top Asian eateries and eclectic bars.

There are plenty of luxury hotels to choose from in Honolulu, including A-list hang-outs like The Royal Hawaiian – known as the ‘Pink Palace of the Pacific’ – and The Kahala Hotel, an exclusive retreat built by Conrad Hilton.
